Gay, lesbian and transgender men and women deserve a dedicated mental health professional. In my practice, I offer well-founded psychotherapeutic techniques to overcome the emotional suffering of adults and teens with anxiety, stress, trauma, loss, depression, self-harm, phobias and addiction. My goal is sustained long-term improvement in individuals suffering from a wide variety of psychological difficulties including bipolar, impulse control and obsessive-compulsive disorders. I am particularly passionate about LGBTQIA+ life issues in today’s challenging world.

In addition to my focus on LGBTQ persons, I provide the unique benefits of EMDR therapy for all those suffering from phobias and stress-related conditions such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and panic attacks. EMDR can be a very efficient technique to help with these issues, with results often achieved quickly.

I offer individual and group therapy at my office in West Palm Beach. I foster a trusting, dependable relationship nurtured in a secure therapeutic environment.

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Barry University and a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy from Nova Southeastern University, both with honors. I received advanced training at the Fort Lauderdale Hospital, a dedicated mental health facility serving a wide range of disorders in people of all ages. I have been a volunteer at Inspire Recovery, an LGBT rehabilitation facility in West Palm Beach.

I am licensed in the State of Florida (LMHC – FL Lisc. #19011). I am also a member of the American Counseling Association, the Florida Psychoanalytic Society, the Southeastern Florida Association for Psychoanalytic Psychology, the Mental Health Association of Palm Beach County and WPATH, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

Specialties & Treatments

Besides Diane Sanders Therapy’s focus in helping LGBTQ patients with their unique set of challenges and difficulties, Diane also specializes in various treatments and therapies to combat a wide range of disorders.

Here we overview the most common areas where Diane Sanders Therapy can provide focused, solution-oriented therapies (use the slider icons to view more):

Anxiety and Stress Unfortunately, everyone has some level of stress and anxiety in their lives. When they manifest themselves in physical symptoms (such as headaches, sleep problems, eating disorders or muscle tension), that's when you need help to identify and manage the stress and/or anxiety. Diane can explore the origin of your anxiety or stress and work with you to develop the coping skills to better manage it in your life.
Addiction / Recovery Addiction comes in many forms. For most, it's drug or alcohol addiction that plays havoc with their lives. For others, it's overspending, overeating, sex, pornography or a host of other activities. Addiction(s) can cause tremendous guilt, anxiety or shame and can adversely effect the lives of loved ones. Diane's solution-oriented approach will uncover the triggers to help you overcome addictive behavior.
Depression Depression can be measured on many levels. For some, it is a debilitating sadness; for others, it is a constant feeling of hopelessness or even anticipating negative outcomes. Whether your depression is mild or severe, it can have a tremendous impact on your daily life. Diane works to uncover the root cause(s) of your depression to provide effective coping mechanisims to help you rise above the sadness and negative feelings.
PTSD / Panic Attacks Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) commonly follows stressful events, such as accidents, natural disasters, rape, military combat, abuse and neglect, to name just a few. Whether you exhibit PTSD through anxiety, depression, substance abuse or in other ways, or if you suffer in silence, Diane can identify and treat your PTSD (and/or Panic Attacks) with a variety of proven techniques.
Sexual Issues Human Sexuality is a complicated subject, and for LGBTQIA+ individuals, it can be a challenging component of their lives. Diane provides a comfortable space where you can speak freely about your sexual (and relationship!) concerns so that she can help you resolve any sexual issues, including desire, dysfunction, intimacy and more.
Grief and Loss Grief is one of the most difficult emotions to handle. When we lose someone or something, the loss is overwhelming and can have a negative effect on our health, our other loved ones and in our personal lives (like work, friendships). Diane can help you navigate your sadness and find ways for you to better cope with your loss, whether it is a sudden crises or an ongoing issue.
Cutting / Self-harm Cutting and self-harm is an outward expression of inner pain.
The truth is that the relief you get from hurting yourself does not last very long, and the feelings that brought you to it soon return.
The first step in healing is to confide in another person. It can be scary to talk about what you’ve been trying so hard to hide, yet it’s a huge relief to finally let go of your secret to someone non-judgmental who allows you to feel accepted and supported.
